बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड र जीवनका अनेकौँ स्वरूप: लोकहरूको यात्रा
ब्रह्माण्ड कति विशाल छ होला? के हामी मात्रै यो विशाल अन्तरिक्षमा एक्लै छौं? यी प्रश्नहरूले मानिसलाई सधैं सोच्न बाध्य पारेका छन्। विज्ञानले ग्रह, तारापुञ्ज र ग्यालेक्सीहरूको खोजी गरिरहेको छ भने, पूर्वीय दर्शन, विशेषगरी बौद्ध धर्म, ले यस ब्रह्माण्डलाई हेर्ने फरक दृष्टिकोण प्रस्तुत गर्दछ। यो केवल भौतिक विस्तारको कुरा मात्रै होइन, बरु जीवनका अनेकौं आयाम र अनुभवका स्तरहरूको वर्णन हो, जसलाई ‘लोक’ भनिन्छ। आउनुहोस्, बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड विज्ञानको यो रहस्यमय यात्रामा लागौं र विभिन्न लोकहरूको बारेमा बुझौं।
बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड विज्ञान भनेको के हो?
बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड विज्ञान (Buddhist Cosmology) लाई आधुनिक खगोल विज्ञान (Astronomy) सँग तुलना गर्नु उचित हुँदैन। यो ब्रह्माण्डको भौतिक संरचनाको मात्रै वर्णन होइन, बरु यो दुःख र त्यसबाट मुक्ति (निर्वाण) पाउने मार्गलाई बुझ्नको लागि बनाइएको एउटा प्रतीकात्मक नक्सा हो। यसले देखाउँछ कि प्राणीहरू आफ्ना कर्म अनुसार विभिन्न अवस्था वा ‘लोक’ मा जन्म लिन्छन् र मृत्यु तथा पुनर्जन्मको चक्र (संसार) मा घुमिरहन्छन्।
यस दर्शन अनुसार, ब्रह्माण्ड असीमित छ र यसमा अनगिन्ती संसार प्रणालीहरू (world systems) छन्। हाम्रो सन्दर्भमा, सामान्यतया ६ वटा मुख्य लोकहरूको कुरा गरिन्छ, जहाँ प्राणीहरू आफ्ना कर्मले गर्दा जन्म लिन्छन् र आ-आफ्नै किसिमका अनुभवहरू गर्छन्।
विभिन्न लोकहरूको वर्णन
संसार (Samsara) को चक्रमा प्राणीहरूले अनुभव गर्ने मुख्य ६ वटा लोकहरू यस प्रकार छन्:
- देव लोक (God Realm): यो सुख र आनन्दले भरिएको लोक हो। यहाँका प्राणीहरू (देवताहरू) सँग लामो आयु, सुन्दर रूप र धेरै शक्ति हुन्छ। उनीहरू आफ्नो असल कर्मको फलस्वरुप यहाँ जन्मिएका हुन्छन्। तर, यो सुख पनि स्थायी हुँदैन। जब उनीहरूको असल कर्मको फल सकिन्छ, उनीहरू अर्को लोकमा जन्म लिन बाध्य हुन्छन्। धेरै सुखमा रम्दा धर्मको अभ्यास बिर्सन सक्ने खतरा यहाँ रहन्छ।
- असुर लोक (Demi-God Realm): यो शक्ति र प्रतिस्पर्धाको लोक हो। असुरहरू सँग देवताहरू जत्तिकै शक्ति हुन्छ तर उनीहरू ईर्ष्यालु र क्रोधी स्वभावका हुन्छन्। उनीहरू सधैं देवताहरूसँग लडिरहन्छन्। यो लोकले शक्ति र घमण्डले भरिएको अवस्थालाई प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दछ।
- मनुष्य लोक (Human Realm): यो नै संसारको सबैभन्दा महत्त्वपूर्ण लोक मानिन्छ। यहाँ सुख र दुःख दुवैको सन्तुलन हुन्छ। हामी (मानवहरू) सँग न त देवताहरूको जस्तो अत्यधिक सुख छ जसले गर्दा हामी धर्म भुल्न सक्छौं, न त तल्लो लोकहरूको जस्तो अत्यधिक दुःख जसले गर्दा धर्म अभ्यास गर्ने अवसर नै पाउँदैनौं। मनुष्य लोकमा नै धर्मको अभ्यास गरी निर्वाण प्राप्त गर्ने उत्कृष्ट अवसर प्राप्त हुन्छ। यसकारण, मानव जीवनलाई अत्यन्तै दुर्लभ र बहुमूल्य मानिन्छ।
- पशु लोक (Animal Realm): यो लोकमा प्राणीहरू पशुको रूपमा जन्म लिन्छन्। उनीहरू मुख्यतया आफ्नो वृत्ति (instinct) द्वारा निर्देशित हुन्छन्। उनीहरूले भोक, तिर्खा, डर र एक अर्काबाट हुने खतरा जस्ता थुप्रै दुःख भोग्छन्। यो लोकले अज्ञानता र वृत्तिमा आधारित जीवनलाई जनाउँछ।
- प्रेत लोक (Hungry Ghost Realm): यो तीव्र तृष्णा र असन्तुष्टिको लोक हो। यहाँका प्राणीहरू (प्रेत) सधैं भोकै र तिर्खै हुन्छन्। उनीहरूको घाँटी सियो जत्रो सानो र पेट ठूलो हुन्छ, जसले गर्दा उनीहरूले केही खान पाए पनि तृप्त हुँदैनन्। यो लोकले लोभ र आसक्तिबाट उत्पन्न हुने कष्टलाई दर्शाउँछ।
- नरक लोक (Hell Realm): यो सबैभन्दा तल्लो र चरम दुःखको लोक हो। यहाँका प्राणीहरूले आफ्ना घोर नकारात्मक कर्महरूको फलस्वरुप असहनीय यातना भोग्छन्। यहाँको कष्ट स्थायी जस्तो लागे पनि, नकारात्मक कर्मको फल सकिएपछि उनीहरू अर्को लोकमा जन्म लिन्छन्। यो लोकले तीव्र घृणा र क्रोधबाट उत्पन्न हुने परिणामलाई प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दछ।
यी लोकहरू केवल अलग-अलग स्थानहरू मात्र होइनन्, बरु यिनीहरू मनका अवस्थाहरू (states of mind) पनि हुन्। हामी हाम्रो जीवनकालमा पनि कहिलेकाहीँ यी लोकहरूको अनुभव गर्न सक्छौं – जस्तै, जब हामी धेरै खुसी हुन्छौं, हामी देव लोकमा जस्तो महसुस गर्न सक्छौं; जब हामी ईर्ष्यालु र झगडालु हुन्छौं, हामी असुर जस्तो बन्छौं; जब हामी लोभी हुन्छौं, प्रेत जस्तो व्यवहार गर्छौं; र जब हामी अत्यधिक क्रोधित हुन्छौं, नरक जस्तो पीडा भोग्छौं।
सुमेरु पर्वत: ब्रह्माण्ड र चेतनाको प्रतीकात्मक केन्द्र
परम्परागत बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड विज्ञानमा, हाम्रो संसार प्रणालीको केन्द्रमा एक विशाल र रहस्यमय सुमेरु पर्वत (Mount Meru) रहेको मानिन्छ। यो केवल एउटा पहाड होइन, बरु सम्पूर्ण अस्तित्वको अक्ष (axis mundi) हो, जसको वरिपरि ग्रह, नक्षत्र र विभिन्न लोकहरू घुम्छन्। यस मान्यता अनुसार, सुमेरु पर्वतको उचाइ अकल्पनीय छ। यसको आधा भाग समुद्र मुनि र आधा भाग समुद्र माथि रहेको कल्पना गरिन्छ। यसका चार दिशातर्फका मोहडाहरू फरक-फरक बहुमूल्य रत्नहरूले बनेका छन्: पूर्वमा चाँदी, पश्चिममा पद्मराग मणि (रुबी), उत्तरमा सुन, र दक्षिणमा वैडूर्यमणि (ल्यापिस लाजुली)। हाम्रो मनुष्य लोक (जसलाई जम्बुद्वीप भनिन्छ) सुमेरुको दक्षिणमा पर्ने हुनाले, वैडूर्यमणिको नीलो रङ्ग आकाशमा प्रतिबिम्बित भएर हाम्रो आकाश नीलो देखिएको हो भन्ने प्रतीकात्मक मान्यता छ।
देव र असुरहरूको वासस्थान
सुमेरु पर्वत नै देव (Gods) र असुर (Demi-gods) हरूको मुख्य संघर्ष र वासस्थान हो।
- असुर लोक: असुरहरू सुमेरु पर्वतको फेदी र समुद्र मुनिको भागमा बस्छन्। पौराणिक कथाअनुसार, उनीहरू पहिले पर्वतको शिखरमा बस्थे तर देवताहरूका राजा शक्र (इन्द्र) ले उनीहरूलाई छलकपट गरेर तल खसाइदिए। त्यसैले, उनीहरू सधैं ईर्ष्या र क्रोधले भरिएर आफ्नो हराएको स्वर्ग फिर्ता पाउन देवताहरूसँग निरन्तर युद्ध गरिरहन्छन्।
- देव लोक: देवताहरूका विभिन्न लोक सुमेरु पर्वतको विभिन्न उचाइमा छन्। यसको तल्लो तहमा चतुर्महाराजकायिक देव (चार दिशाका रक्षक देवताहरू) बस्छन् भने, शिखरको समतल भूमिमा त्रयस्त्रिंश (Tāvatiṃsa) स्वर्ग छ, जहाँ ३३ जना प्रमुख देवताहरू राजा शक्रको नेतृत्वमा रहन्छन्। यो सुख, वैभव र आनन्दको केन्द्र हो।
यो ज्ञान किन महत्त्वपूर्ण छ?
बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड विज्ञान बुझ्नुको मुख्य उद्देश्य केवल कथा जान्नु मात्र होइन। यसले हामीलाई संसारको वास्तविक प्रकृति, कर्मको नियम (हाम्रा प्रत्येक कार्यको परिणाम हुन्छ भन्ने ज्ञान) र अनित्य (impermanence) तथा दुःख जस्ता आधारभूत बौद्ध शिक्षाहरू बुझ्न मद्दत गर्छ।
यस ज्ञानले हामीलाई हाम्रो मानव जीवनको महत्त्व बुझाउँछ। अन्य लोकहरूको तुलनामा, मानव जीवनमा नै सही ज्ञान प्राप्त गर्ने, धर्मको अभ्यास गर्ने र संसारको चक्रबाट मुक्ति पाउने सम्भावना सबैभन्दा बढी हुन्छ। यसकारण, हामीले यो बहुमूल्य अवसरलाई खेर फाल्नु हुँदैन भन्ने प्रेरणा यसले दिन्छ।
केही वर्षअघि म एकजना लामा गुरुको प्रवचन सुन्दै थिएँ। उहाँले भन्नुभयो, “यी लोकहरू कतै टाढा छैनन्। जब तिमी कसैप्रति अत्यन्तै क्रोधित हुन्छौ, तिमी त्यहीबेला नरकको अनुभव गरिरहेका हुन्छौ। जब तिमी केही पाउनको लागि मरिहत्ते गर्छौ, तिमी प्रेत जस्तै बन्छौ। हाम्रो मन नै यी लोकहरूको प्रवेशद्वार हो।” उहाँको यो कुराले मलाई साँच्चै छोयो। यसले बुझायो कि बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड विज्ञान केवल एउटा पुरानो कथा होइन, यो त हाम्रो वर्तमान जीवन, हाम्रो मन र हाम्रा कर्म सँग प्रत्यक्ष जोडिएको छ।
अन्त्यमा, बौद्ध ब्रह्माण्ड विज्ञान र लोकहरूको वर्णनले हामीलाई यो विशाल संसार र यसभित्रका अनेकौं जीवन स्वरूपहरूको बारेमा सोच्न बाध्य पार्छ। यसले देखाउँछ कि हाम्रो अवस्था हाम्रै कर्म र मनको अवस्थामा निर्भर गर्दछ। सबैभन्दा महत्त्वपूर्ण कुरा, यसले हामीलाई यो मनुष्य लोकको अमूल्य अवसरलाई बुझ्न र यसको उपयोग दुःखको अन्त्य र निर्वाणको प्राप्तिका लागि धर्म अभ्यासमा लगाउन प्रेरित गर्दछ। याद राख्नुहोस्, मुक्ति बाहिर कतै छैन, यो हामी भित्रै धर्म को मार्गमा हिँड्दा प्राप्त हुन्छ।
